Less than a festival but more than an ordinary day!

ZERO WASTE EVENT – COME & SEE!

Join in the fun while sharing the magic of okra - one of Florida's forgotten vegetable treasures. There will be delicious samples of okra dishes, a cooking contest, okra recipe books, and some fresh okra for sale by local growers. Come for the seasonal food and learn about sustainable living.

Besides enjoying this local food-sovereignty event and agrarian celebration of local produce, the public is encouraged to see what a zero-waste event looks like and learn about compostable dining materials.

All plates, bowls, cups, and utensils used at the Okra Occasion are certified compostable or recyclable. All will be collected and composted or recycled after the event, with compost being used by gardeners in the FarmNet community. Left-over food to be given away or composted.

We will have a presentation on the City’s commitment to urban agriculture, New Port Richey FarmNet, agrarian programming, and of course the famous Okra Tasting event, with prizes and ribbons awarded for top three dishes. Remember, this is a tasting event, not a buffet.

If you would like to enter the famous Okra Tasting event, send your name and email address to : ddechant@tampabay.rr.com, and we will be in touch with you.

Support for this is event is gratefully received from the City of New Port Richey, Ecology Florida, New Port Richey Public Library, New Port Richey FarmNet, the Environmental Committee of the City of New Port Richey, Keep Pasco Beautiful, Rose’s Bistro, and volunteers committed to agrarian ideals and practices.
